About REACT
Vanderburgh County REACT provides many volunteer communication and other valuable services to our community, and has been doing so since the 1960’s. We are one of the first REACT International Teams to be formed and proudly hold the charter number of C-296. We are an active participant in the Indiana State REACT Council.
Vanderburgh County REACT has a communications station assigned to them at the Evansville Emergency Management Agency’s Comm Center.
On the right is a photo of the current Team president, George Lynn (Unit 16) as he shows us where the station is located inside the American Red Cross building, with a map of the Evansville area on the wall behind him. Click on the photo for a larger view.
Vanderburgh County REACT operates both UHF / GMRS and CB radios from this comm center. Extra hand held GMRS radios are always ready for distribution during an emergency or for a planned public safety event.
We provide trained volunteer radio operators to supervise run-a-thons, bike-a-thons, parades and other charity or public events.
We are on stand-by for call-out by local law enforcement, the local chapter of the American Red Cross or by the local Emergency Managment Agency.
Membership is open to any interested person with a clean, non-criminal background. A radio license is not required, but you must have access to a radio on one of the services used by the Team.
Participation in Team sanctioned events, in support of the County Emergency Management Agency, and attendance at membership meetings will be strongly encouraged. We don’t need or want “paper members”.
